This week is Road Safety Week in the United Kingdom, organised by Brake – the charity dedicated to making roads safer for all. With 20,000 vehicles on the UK’s roads, driver safety is our biggest priority at Ogilvie Fleet.
As we enter the winter months, with shorter days and harsher weather, our maintenance team recommends a short checklist to ensure your vehicle is safe for you and other road users:
Tyre pressure and tread depth
Keeping on top of your vehicle’s tyre health is a simple but critical task to support safer driving. Find out more about tyre pressure and depth checks here.
Test your brakes
Perform low-speed checks of your brakes, as these can be impacted by the weather and periods of low vehicle usage.
Lighting checks
Whilst stationary, perform regular checks on all exterior lights. These help you see, be seen and alert other drivers.
Dashboard checks
Modern vehicle dashboards contain a range of warnings, covering critical areas such as low oil and coolant levels. If a warning light appears, contact your local service centre immediately.
Windscreen checks
Check your windscreen isn’t chipped or cracked, as even minor issues can become severe in cold weather. Find out more about replacement glass here.
Windscreen fluid
Keep your windscreen washer fluid full to ensure your windscreens keep clean. This also acts as a de-icer in cold weather.
Mirror positioning
Check your rear view mirrors are positioned accurately, especially if you are not the only driver of the car
Regular servicing
Scheduled servicing performs a more in-depth check of critical areas of your vehicle. You can book your service here.
Driver safety packs
Your Ogilvie Fleet vehicle will have been delivered with a driver safety pack. This contains items to keep your vehicle maintained and safety equipment should you break down or have an accident.
